Being an English learner can be a real challenging task. Students face many aspects of a new language, such as vocabulary, grammar, listening and pronunciation. Most of the times learners focus on grammar and vocabulary and give less importance to pronunciation. My personal experience has taught me how important is learning the subtleties of English pronunciation. Taking TDC 2B has made a massive improvement to my pronunciation skills.
When we are learning a new language we always come up with questions about how to pronounce this or that word. Then we have the dictionary with all those unfamiliar symbols and we ask ourselves what they are made for. At TDC 2B we learn all those symbols, so we become able to decifrate what the pronunciation of the word is.
As you dominate the symbols and know their peculiarities you feel comfortable as a teacher as well. I feel that now I am able to explore all the details about pronunciation, such as word endings and its relation to voiceless and voiced sounds; differences between noun and verbs; pitch and intonation of sentences; and so on.
If teachers have the knowledge of how importante it is to work pronunciation and how many details are involved into that, their students sure will receive the benefit of improving their pronunciation and, therefore, their ability of making themselves comprehensible. As a professional I'm sure I raised the bar taking TDC 2B and the benefit is not only mine, but mostly of my students.
